PETA: People for the Extermination of Transient Animals

Miscellany

The people running PETA are nuts. Even if you are a duck-squeezing, tree-hugging, granola-munching nature lover, if you look inside this organization you will find some... questionable philosophies for people who claim to be diggin' on critters.

"PETA believes euthanasia is the kindest gift to a dog or cat unwanted and unloved."
-- Ingrid Newkirk, PETA President

WTF, Ingrid? My dog and three ferrets, all adopted from no-kill shelters, will be encouraged to bite your crazy ass if we ever meet you.

Now, this site is not really about politics--at least, it's not about personal rants--but quacks and nutjobs are often interesting topics, and below are two good PETA links to share.

  • One, an article about how crack PETA forces in North Carolina are allegedly "helping" no-kill animal shelters by taking their animals and secretly euthanizing them instead of finding homes for them. 62 counts of animal cruelty! This was earlier in '05, I wonder how it turned out...
  • Two, a lengthy clip from Penn & teller's fine show Bullshit!. They did an episode on PETA, and this is a part of that show. The clip is here, but note the ads on the site and the language in the clip are NSFW. This clip addresses PETA's unwholesome enthusiasm for euthanizing animals, among other things.

Please, stick it to PETA by eating some meat and adopting your next pet; take advantage of this intarweb thingy and hit a site like Petfinder.
