Speck MacBook case mini review, temperature comparison

Speck makes a tight fitting plastic shell for MacBooks. In brief, the shell fits well and doesn't seem to add a lot of bulk to the laptop. There are cutouts for the ports, and it's pretty much something you can slap on and forget about. After a few days of use, the Speck shell seems like a viable alternative to using a slipcase.

It is likely that wrapping your laptop in plastic would prevent it from dumping heat as well. Here are before and after numbers, from a 2.4GHz 17" Macbook Pro. (Temperature data is from Marcel Bresink's free Temperature Monitor.)

Speck case temperature comparison

The temperatures are up across the board, but by a small amount. The computer wasn't heavily loaded for these tests, so this does not represent the worst case scenario, but the increase seems to be reasonable. YMMV.
