The key to this project is the "blast gate," a woodworking dust management part. 4" plastic blast gates are cheap and ferret-sized, and the matching hose can be clamped securely into place.
A Dremel tool and cutting disk was used to cut away 3 of the cage bars to make room for the gate. A grinding stone was then used to round off the sharp edges.
Holes were drilled at each corner of the blast gate, and zip ties secure it to the cage. (I was skeptical at first but it fits very tightly.)
On the other end, it was easy to cut a circle out of the plastic tub with the Dremel too. |
