Cold cathode aquarium moonlight

Cold cathode aquarium moonlight

Description : A 12V "cold cathode" accent light intended for a computer case can be used as an aquarium moonlight. The light is brighter and more even than what is provided by an array of LEDs. (The LED spotlight effect can be nice though.)

Cost of materials:

Red cold cathode computer light: $15 retail, but you can often find them online for around $5.

Variable voltage "wall wart," 500mA: $8 at Fry's.

Timer: $0. Why bother? Leave the moonlight on all the time, it only uses a few watts of power. It will be drowned out by the daytime lights so you won't see it until they switch off.

(Plus wire, solder, heat shrink tubing, zipties, etc.)
