MiscellanyThis site's administrator was recently contacted by a Swiss newspaper which wished to use a photo from the wrongcrowd.com gallery in a newspaper article about HDR photography. How the Swiss tech writer selected this photo from the millions of high dynamic range shots out there will forever be mysterious, but the espresso stand on Kirkland's Juanita Beach is now famous among a small subset of German speaking Swiss newspaper readers.

Sony Online Entertainment's game studio in Bellevue is on a mission with "The Agency," a James Bondish thriller it has been developing since 2005.

The mission's getting less secret by the day — especially since the Sony division boss will talk it up during a games conference in Seattle this week — but it's still pretty intriguing.Sony is hoping "The Agency" creates a new genre that blends the action of first-person shooting games with the immersive experience of massively multiplayer online (MMO) games.

Speck MacBook case mini review, temperature comparison

  View Printable Version
GadgetsSpeck makes a tight fitting plastic shell for MacBooks. In brief, the shell fits well and doesn't seem to add a lot of bulk to the laptop. There are cutouts for the ports, and it's pretty much something you can slap on and forget about. After a few days of use, the Speck shell seems like a viable alternative to using a slipcase.

It is likely that wrapping your laptop in plastic would prevent it from dumping heat as well. Here are before and after numbers, from a 2.4GHz 17" Macbook Pro. (Temperature data is from Marcel Bresink's free Temperature Monitor.)

Speck case temperature comparison

The temperatures are up across the board, but by a small amount. The computer wasn't heavily loaded for these tests, so this does not represent the worst case scenario, but the increase seems to be reasonable. YMMV.
