California Burns Again

  View Printable Version
NewsworthyThese pictures were taken on November 16 2008 in Diamond Bar, CA. The city's posh gated community, called "The Country," was evacuated due to fire danger. Not for the first time, planes had to make fire retardant drops around Ridge Line Road. See more below.

Currently there are fires in Brea and Yorba Linda, among many other places. iReport has more photos of the fires.

Update: Excellent photos at Boston.com.

Horror short films on Showtime

  View Printable Version
NewsworthyStarting 10/28, Showtime will be playing a series of original horror short films. The Masters of Horror web site has summaries and trailers for the 13 films. One of them is H.P. Lovecraft's Dreams in the Witch-House!

Update: Dreams in the Witch-House was decent. The opening episode, about some crazy killer guy in the sticks, was OK too. Everything else, aside from a great part by Robert Picardo, has pretty much stunk up the place so far. Masters of Horror? Give me a break.

Fall 2005 network TV lineup: summary

  View Printable Version
Newsworthy

Zap2It has posted great summaries of the upcoming network TV seasons, including cancellations, details about each new show, and prime-time schedules.

New sci-fi, spooky, or supernatural themed shows: Invasion (ABC, Wednesdays @ 10), The Night Stalker (remake, ABC, Thursdays @ 9), Ghost Whisperer (Medium ripoff, CBS, Fridays at 8), Threshold (with Brent Spiner, CBS, Fridays @ 9), Fathom (NBC, Mondays @ 8), Supernatural (WB, Tuesdays at 9)

Has some real potential: Prison Break (FOX, Mondays @ 9)

New cop or "procedural investigation" shows: Too many to list! None look very interesting.

New sitcoms: Who cares? However, Seth Greene is part of the ensemble in Four Kings (NBC, time unknown). Jason Lee is also starring in the "quirky" My Name Is Earl (NBC, Tuesdays @ 9).

(AVSForum member Xesdeeni has put all the new schedule data into a grid.)

Yes, those are ads.

Newsworthy

Yes, there are ads on the site now. I chose Google's text ads because they are easy to work with and unoffensive, as ads go. You'll find no crying about "covering my expenses" or other weepy hand-wringing... I just wanted to try making a few bucks since for some reason thousands of visitors come here each month.

If you want to block the ads, it's easy and you are more than welcome to--not that I could stop you anyway. Check out this help file for all the info.
