This Army Times article makes it clear that the projects which were supposed to replace the venerable M16--such as the XM8--have all failed to get picked up. Our troops will be stuck the the M16 for quite a while longer.

The article includes a neat animation showing the guts of the HK 416 compared to the M4. (Get more information on the HK 416 at HKPro.com.)

The Bullet Test Tube looks like a lot of fun, and a lot easier than mixing ballistics get. You can also melt and re-use it. Yes, the Mythbusters have told us how to make ballistics get, but you have to keep it cool so it doesn't get melty. That can be tough when you are out in the sticks playing with toys that go bang.
